Okay.. I had a 179 layers going by the end and that's not counting the ones I merged. My computer started to lag when Photoshop was the only program open, my computer never lags.. It was a bit daunting.
My thought was that I had to come up with a way for there to be an 8th evil ex which also ignored the mathematical laws of, well, addition. Even ignoring in continuity reasons for there being no reason for an 8th evil ex, the only person who actually could be.. Is Scott, since 7 + 1 = 8. Hence "The Lost Levels."
Here is the deal. The first person to note me a list with every hidden "Easter egg" or reference will get one free safe-for-work 1-3 character commission.
Edit: 9/4/10 So you guys seemed to like the search and find aspect better then anything else I've tried! was the winner. He got all but a handful of references, which I will list now. The ones that are not bold are the ones he missed.
The title is a reference to "Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels" which was originally "Super Mario Bros. 2" in Japan. Western countries instead got a version of "Doki Doki Panic" with Mario characters replacing the original sprites. Scott's jacket Super Mario Bros. 2 Subspace is outside the window. Note: He missed that the door Ramona is using is also the subspace door from that game. Grounder from Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog Piranha Plant from Mario Keyblade from Kingdom Hearts Big Key from Legend of Zelda Ice Key from Banjo-Kazooie The word "Thursday" is derived from "Thunor's Day" which literally means, "Thor's Day" in old Norse. "I Want to Believe" Mulder's poster The X-Files Robo from Chrono Trigger poster Alex Kidd clock Nintendo 64 controller Kracko from Kirby - cereal box Plumtree CD Bryan Lee O'Malley's comic Lost at Sea Pikachu slipper Game Gear with Sonic Slippy mentioned; Scott is playing Star Fox 64 Mr Saturn from Mother/Earthbound T-Shirt Thor's difficulty is legendary, a reference to Halo. I'm sure other games have it.. but that was the first I believe. Thor makes the "MAH BOI!" gesture. From Zelda CDi "+2 Against Loki... When he's a girl." Is a reference to Ramona's hammer from the Scott Pilgrim series, "+2 against girls," but I was more interested in referencing the fact the Marvel version of Loki did a gender bender a couple years back.. Yeah.. Thor's speech patterns are Elizabethan English, a reference to the Marvel version of Thor.. It always annoyed me that a Norse god wasn't speaking with like a Scandinavian or Germanic accent.. Finally, Thor makes the "OBJECTION!" gesture from Phoenix Wright.
I didn't count a couple of references, because they weren't really elaborated on to well. Thor's belt is a pseudo-reference to the world championship belt worn by Mr. Satan in Dragon Ball Z. I changed it severely for aesthetic purposes. There was also a barely implied reference to Norse mythology.. Tanngrisnir and Tanngnjóstr are supposed to be Thor's slippers.
I also originally had a page explaining he got angry at Ramona for cutting her hair because it reminded him of when Loki cut off Sif's hair but I thought that it was way to convoluted and ruined the overall flow... If someone managed to read that into this, I was going to give them super extra brownie points.
I know why Thor is talking all Shakespearean style! ...'Cuz he's stoned. The eyes scream it. I noticed: -Slippy(Bubble) -Robo(Chrono Trigger+) -Grounder(Sonic) -Piranha Plant(Mario) -X-Men coat -Game Boy(Yeah!) -Sonic/Pikachu -Krako's (DOOM?) Besides that, no clue!
Seriously, all vikings look like gay bondage masters.. Unless Jack Kirby designed them. That man could envision Death as a black man on rocket skis in bright primary colors though..
